CONNECTING KENYAN LANDSCAPES

WildLandscapes International is dedicated to expanding and restoring critical rhino habitats in East Africa, focusing initially on the Tsavo Conservation Area. Our efforts center on supporting habitat growth in the Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) of Tsavo West National Park, an area with the potential to become a sanctuary for over 1,500 rhinos. These actions align with the goals of the Kenya Rhino Range Expansion (KRRE) project, led by the Association of Private & Community Land Rhino Sanctuaries (APLRS) and the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). While KRRE is a key partner in achieving shared objectives, WildLandscapes' primary focus is on large-scale, sustainable habitat restoration that benefits not only rhinos but also a range of species and local communities.

The Tsavo Conservation Area, spanning over 10.5 million acres, was once a historic stronghold for the Eastern black rhino. Habitat fragmentation and environmental degradation have contributed to the species' decline, making large, connected landscapes essential for population recovery. Our partnership with Tsavo Trust strengthens these efforts through collaborative conservation initiatives, emphasizing habitat restoration, improved wildlife monitoring, and security operations.

The expansion of the IPZ within Tsavo West aims to create a safer and more sustainable environment for rhinos, elephants, Grevy’s zebras, and other keystone species. By enhancing connectivity between wildlife populations and restoring degraded land, these efforts contribute to biodiversity conservation and climate resilience.

WildLandscapes International also prioritizes community-centered conservation, recognizing that sustainable wildlife protection requires the support and participation of local communities. By partnering with Tsavo Trust and other organizations, we promote inclusive conservation practices that foster local ownership, create jobs, and enhance livelihoods through eco-tourism and improved rangeland management.

Our work supports broader goals, including Kenya’s conservation commitments and the global 30x30 initiative, by strengthening protected areas and conserving ecological corridors. Through partnerships, capacity-building, and shared knowledge, WildLandscapes International aims to help create a future where wildlife and communities thrive together in some of East Africa’s most iconic landscapes.
